Replacing a compressor means opening the refrigerant circuit. This work belongs in the hands of a refrigeration installer with the qualification required for the refrigerant.
Find an installerFrequently asked questions about compressors
How do I find the right replacement compressor?
Enter the model designation from the nameplate under Find a replacement above, e.g. ZB38KCE, SC15G or NJ9238GK. Good to know: Aspera is now Embraco, L'Unite belongs to Tecumseh, Maneurop to Danfoss, and the small Danfoss compressors are now sold as Secop. If the item name mentions a successor, the new model is named right there. No match? Send us a photo of the nameplate via the spare part request.
What do LBP, MBP and HBP mean?
They describe the application range by evaporating temperature: LBP (low back pressure) for low temperature, MBP (medium) for medium temperature, HBP (high) for high evaporating temperatures, e.g. in dehumidifiers or water coolers. Many models cover several ranges; this is stated in the item. Under Choose by application you select low, medium or high temperature or air conditioning, plus refrigerant and supply voltage, and see only matching compressors.
Which compressor type suits my system?
Refrigerated cabinets and small cold rooms mostly use reciprocating compressors; condensing units, air conditioners and heat pumps often scroll compressors; split air conditioners rotary compressors; and large systems screw compressors. There are also variable-speed compressors and compressors for heat pumps. Examples and differences are explained on the page Compressors by type.
Which compressor brands do you carry?
Which voltage does my compressor need?
It is on the nameplate. Small compressors for refrigerated cabinets usually run on 220–240 V, 50 Hz, single-phase, larger ones on 380–415 V, 50 Hz, three-phase. With Copeland the suffix shows the voltage, e.g. TFD for 380–420 V three-phase and PFJ for 220–240 V single-phase. Only use a 60 Hz compressor if the data sheet also approves 50 Hz. Under Choose by application you can filter by supply voltage.
Where can I find performance data and application limits?
In the data sheet, which many items offer for download. The capacity at your own operating point is calculated by the manufacturers' free selection programs: Bitzer Software, Copeland Select and Danfoss Coolselector2. How much cooling capacity your system needs: calculate the cooling load, and for cold rooms the cold room configurator.
What should I replace along with the compressor?
The filter drier – manufacturers such as Tecumseh and Secop require this. Starting components such as relay, capacitor and motor protector must match exactly this model, as specified by the manufacturer; you will find start capacitors and other compressor accessories in our shop. The oil type is on the nameplate; do not mix oil types. Refrigeration oil is available separately. After a motor burnout the oil is often acidic; the system must then be cleaned, e.g. with a burn-out filter drier in the suction line.
Is a repair worthwhile instead of a new compressor?
Often for semi-hermetic compressors, because they are bolted: valve plates, bearings or motor can be replaced. We repair or overhaul them, with a cost estimate in advance: have a compressor repaired. Hermetic compressors are welded and are replaced. Our technical support answers questions by phone or via callback.
Are compressors also available as complete condensing units?
Yes. A condensing unit comes with compressor, condenser and fan ready mounted, e.g. Copeland EazyCool or Tecumseh Silensys. All units are listed under condensing units. For a made-to-measure cold room there is the cold room configurator.
