Changing the valve core under pressure
The valve core in the service port is a restriction. During evacuation it costs time; changing it without the right tool costs the charge. With a core remover the core can be taken out and refitted under pressure.

- A core remover rather than a plain key A plain valve core key assumes a depressurised system. The core remover takes the core out through an integrated shut-off valve without the charge escaping.
- Matching connection sizes 1/4" SAE covers the normal case. On many R410A and R32 units the suction side is 5/16" SAE. Anyone serving both needs both, or a clean adapter.
- Seals and materials The seals have to match the refrigerant and the oil. With A2L and A3 that belongs in the selection, not in the rework.
- Carry spare cores A valve core costs little and can block a whole appointment. An assortment in the case is cheaper than a second journey.
- Evacuating without a restriction Pulling the core for evacuation gets you to the target noticeably faster. The precondition is a tool that lets you refit the core cleanly afterwards.

Can I change the valve core under pressure?
With a Schrader core remover, yes. It takes the core out and back in through an integrated shut-off valve without the system having to be emptied.
Why does evacuation take so long?
Frequently because the valve core is still in the service port. It is a marked restriction in cross-section. Pulling it for evacuation gets you to the target value faster.
1/4" or 5/16"?
1/4" SAE is the normal case. On many R410A and R32 units the suction side is 5/16" SAE. Check what is fitted on your systems before buying a set.
